KEY POINTS:
A North Canterbury rally competitor has died this afternoon after a crash during a popular event. Police have confirmed one competitor is dead as a result of a quad bike crash during the two day Ashley Forest Rally Sprint, just north of Rangiora.
Inspector Alan Weston says the serious crash unit and police are still at the scene and there will be a full investigation.
Event organiser Lindsay Kerr has not yet been able to confirm who was killed, only saying that there was a serious accident.
