It is a wet day across the country today, and most places can expect to be hit by rain or showers.
"Most places are getting some sort of rain today, especially in the North Island," said MetService spokeswoman Philippa Murdoch.
Rain would continue in the North Island, but should clear later this afternoon in Auckland and Northland, she said. Rain that had hit Bay of Plenty would ease to showers.
Hawkes Bay has experienced warmer temperatures over the last few days, but these have now dropped back down, Ms Murdoch said.
A cold southwesterly was causing showers in the South Island through Canterbury and Marlborough. Showers across Buller and Nelson are expected to get heavier with a chance of thunderstorms later today, she said.
