A 26-year-old tourist has been found safe and well after spending more than a day stranded on a rock in Mount Aspiring National Park.
The man arrived in New Zealand from Estonia, in Northern Europe, last Monday and failed to return from a solo rafting trip in the Young Valley area yesterday afternoon.
Police sent out a search team this morning and he was found on a rock. He was winched to safety this afternoon, Senior Constable Mike Johnston told NZPA.
The man had carried an inflatable raft to the Siberia Stream in Mount Aspiring National Park but did not know the area.
"He ended up getting down the gorge until he got a space where he just couldn't move forward any further, so pretty much got himself trapped," Mr Johnston said
