Anti-nuclear groups believe the most radioactive material ever produced is about to transit through the Tasman Sea.
Greenpeace says the cargo contains waste produced by a plutonium reprocessing facility in France.
The group says the vessel Pacific Sandpiper is carrying 124 canisters of deadly classified nuclear matter.
It says if any were to be released into the environment, either by accident or attack, it would be around for thousands of years.
