Radio man's death shocks Newstalk ZB

Newstalk ZB is in mourning today following the shock death of Garry Ward.

The 68-year-old has been the host of The Great Weekender in Wellington on Newstalk ZB since 1983 and had a long and illustrious broadcasting career stretching back over 40 years.

He covered numerous Olympic and Commonwealth Games for TVNZ and he became a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit earlier this year for services to broadcasting.

Garry Ward passed away suddenly at his home in Waikanae around 8 o'clock this morning.
