A pleasing workout has rescued the Interdominion campaign of Pompallier.
The South Auckland trotter will take his place in tomorrow's A$200,000 Final at Moonee Valley after satisfying trainer Richard Brosnan in his final workout yesterday.
Brosnan was going to scratch the Dominion Handicap winner if he did not improve this week after producing a career-worst performance in his heat last Saturday.
"He worked better today than he did last week and I think he is on the way back to form," said Brosnan.
"I am not sure he is back to his best but he is getting closer and I think he can run a place if he gets some luck in the running.
"I am not so sure he can win though."
Brosnan thinks Pompallier may have been suffering from a slight virus last week.
His improvement means defending champion Play On is almost certain to miss tomorrow's race as he is first emergency and needs a scratching to make the field.
If he does not make the field he will start in a minor trot in the programme.
New Zealand trotter Delft still holds favouritism for the race over the Victorian pair of A Touch Of Flair and Sammy Do Good.
New Zealand has a strong hand in the final, with Genius, Glenbogle, Prince Sundon, Romper Stomper and Whatsundermykilt also engaged.
Prince Sundon has a first and second to his credit in the heats.
Romper Stomper, who might still be a year away from his best, impressed with his second last weekend.
