Wairarapa-based motorcycle racing champion Aaron Slight is encouraging motorcyclists to take up safety courses on offer in the Wellington region this year.
The Ride Forever National Training course is a full day's training, delivered by New Zealand Transport Agency-approved trainers, and is available to anyone with a licence.
Mr Slight said knowing how much braking pressure to apply in an emergency is a skill that needs to be learned and practised regularly.
"Whether you are a novice, returning to riding after many years, or an experienced motorcyclist, these courses are for you," he said.
"The lessons you learn may go a long way to getting you out of a sticky situation."
