Questions over whale death

Investigations are being held into how a young sperm whale was caught in commercial fishing gear, and who took its teeth after it washed up dead.

The female whale last month washed up at Port Waikato, on the west coast south of Auckland, with heavy long-line gear wrapped around its tail. Department of Conservation staff said it was missing most of its bottom teeth.
