A Hamilton man believes a WWI medal rightfully belongs to a family with links to Masterton.
Carl Rofe wishes to return a 1914-15 Star to the direct descendants of Corporal John (Johann?) Gregors Petersen, who he believes hails from the Masterton area.
"Corporal Petersen was in the Auckland Infantry Regiment, service number 12/842, and went to war as a member of the 1st NZ Expeditionary Force.
"He was killed in action on 25th of April 1915, the first day of landings in Turkey.
"I believe my deceased father was some sort of second cousin to the Petersens, although I have no idea how this medal ended up in our possession, but it should rightly belong to a more direct family member.
