A fire that destroyed a house in Queenstown this morning has been brought under control.
Crews are dampening down hotspots at the scene, on Lower Shotover Rd near the main road.
Homeowner Philip George told Fairfax Media: "We woke in the early hours of the morning to smoke and smoke detectors saved us and our friends."
"The home we loved and cherished and it's a tragedy for Queenstown to see such a historic home go up in flames."
Two males were taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
