KEY POINTS:
The Queen marks the fiftieth anniversary of her televised Christmas broadcast today, reminding people of their responsibility towards society's most vulnerable people.
It is the main thrust of her Christmas message to the Commonwealth, which is being delivered in podcasts and on YouTube this year, as well as on radio and TV.
The 81-year-old monarch says one of the benefits of growing older is a heightened awareness of change.
The message also pays tribute to sacrifices made by the Armed Forces. The comments are particularly relevant to the Royals, as both Prince William and Prince Harry are away with their army regiments this year.
The annual message was first broadcast on TV in 1957, when it was transmitted live from the Queen's Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
This year's recording will be broadcast on TV One, after the evening news.
