A magnitude 4.9 earthquake acted as an alarm clock for some people in Wairarapa yesterday morning.
The quake struck at 7.46am and was widely felt across central North Island, according to GeoNet. It was described as moderate, at 32km deep and 10km east of Eketahuna.
Over 2000 people logged a "felt it" report with GeoNet and several social media users in Wairarapa said they noticed it.
Eketahuna resident Marina Forsyth said she definitely felt it. "Am awake now that's for sure."
Kahutara resident Rochelle Latimer said she spilt her morning coffee. "Good shake here, made the lights swing and the lazy boy rock plus sent the cows running across the paddock."
