KEY POINTS:
An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale struck near Matata in the Bay of Plenty today.
GNS Science said today the earthquake hit 10km north-east of Matata at 6pm at a depth of 5km.
It was felt in Matata, Edgecumbe and Whakatane.
