Quake strikes near eastern Bay of Plenty

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale struck the eastern Bay of Plenty this morning.

GNS Science said the 6.38am quake hit 100km north of White Island, at a depth of 170km.

It was felt in Opotiki and possibly on the East Cape.
