A quake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has been widely felt through-out the Wellington and Kapiti Coast areas.
The quake struck at 7.04am, 10km south of Palmerston North and had a focal depth of 40km, according to the GenoNet website.
Over 300 homes and businesses had reported the quake on the GNS website by 7.30am.
