A moderately strong earthquake has struck close to the West Coast town of Te Anau overnight.
The 4.2 magnitude quake hit shortly after 1.30am at a depth of 15 kilometres, GeoNet reports.
It was located 60km north-west of Te Anau.
Meanwhile, another earthquake shook Seddon this morning, reaching 3.2 on the richter scale.
It struck 15km east of the upper South Island town, at a depth of 21km.
