KEY POINTS:
An earthquake shook the Coromandel peninsular at 11.24pm last night.
Measuring 5 on the Richter scale, the quake was 130km north-east of Whangamata at a depth of 12km, GNS Science reported.
It was felt in Whangamata and Waihi.
