KEY POINTS:
An earthquake in the Marlborough Sounds late last night was widely felt in parts of the South and North Island.
The quake struck at 11.20pm and measured 4.6 on the Richter scale with a focal depth of 100km.
It was felt as far north as Waitara and as far south as Akaroa.
The GNS science website, GeoNet, recorded that 125 households had felt and reported the quake overnight.
