A magnitude 4.9 earthquake has shaken the eastern Bay of Plenty early this morning, GeoNet reports.
The quake struck at 2.12am and was centred 15km west of Te Kaha, at a depth of 32km.
It was reportedly felt from Te Kaha down to Marewa, Napier, and several people felt the quake in Gisborne.
