KEY POINTS:
An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted parts of the South Island's West Coast this afternoon.
The earthquake at 2.12pm was centred 20km east of Reefton at a depth of 9km.
It was widely felt on the West Coast and was reported by 148 people just an hour after it struck.
