Communities on the East Coast of the North Island were rattled by an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale this morning.
The quake hit at 5.07am, 100km east of Tokomaru Bay at a depth of 12 km, Geological and Nuclear Sciences reported on its website.
Residents of Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay were likely to have felt it.
A 4.5 quake hit Lake Taupo on Thursday morning.
