All greater Christchurch land has been divided into four residential zones - red, orange, green and white.
Red zone: About 5000 homes are in this zone and can not be rebuilt. The Government has made an offer to these homeowners as part of today's announcements.
Orange zone: There are another 10,000 homes in this area, and these homeowners remain in limbo until further investigation of their properties is carried out.
Green zone: About 100,000 homes are in the Green Zone and could be rebuilt.
White zone: Houses in this zone, including the Port Hills and the central business district, were still being mapped or were not residential land.
