KEY POINTS:
An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck the Taranaki region last night.
The quake's centre was less than 5km from the Taranaki town of Waverley and had a focal depth of 25km.
The earthquake happened at 9.40 last night and by 7.45 this morning it had been reported by 18 businesses and homes from Bulls in the south to New Plymouth in the north-west.
