A 4.1 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of the lower North Island this afternoon.
The quake, which was recorded at 3.54pm, was 40km deep and 40km north west of Otaki, in the Wanganui Basin, GNS Science said.
It was felt in Wellington, Lower Hutt and likely also on the Kapiti Coast.
