A woman is considering leaving Christchurch after she confronted two burglars in her earthquake-damaged home on Monday night.
Police say the woman, in her early 30s, was home alone when the two offenders entered her unlocked Geraldine St home, Edgeware, around 9.30pm.
Constable Megan Grice said the woman confronted the offenders.
"She yelled, 'what are you doing'?"
One of the offenders shoved her as they fled, Constable Grice said.
She considered the woman "very lucky" that the situation had not escalated.
The burglars took portable electronics - which were carried off in the woman's daughter's school backpack, later found by a passerby near the central city and handed in to one of the cordons.
Constable Grice said the woman was unharmed, but "she's considering whether to remain in Christchurch".
She said the incident highlighted the importance of people ensuring their homes were secure, and added that if someone believed an intruder was in their home they should call the police rather than confronting the offender.
Anyone with information on the incident can contact Papanui Police Station on 373 9100.
