An earthquake centred 30km west of Porirua this morning, was felt as far south as St Omer in Marlborough.
The GNS Science website reported the quake this morning as being 3.9 on the Richter scale, with a focal depth of 40km at 2.33am.
The quake was reported by 52 households and businesses on the website by 11.30 this morning.
There were two reports of the quake being strongly felt in Whitby and Wellington.
