A national earthquake drill carried out last year has been deemed so successful by the Government that it will be repeated in 2015.
More than 1.3 million New Zealanders, including almost 2000 schools and nearly as many businesses, registered to dive under their desks in last September's ShakeOut.
The event carried the message 'drop to your knees, cover your head and neck, crawl under a sturdy table, and hold onto it during the tremor'.
A report to Civil Defence Minister Nikki Kaye judged the campaign a success, with 93.4 per cent of respondents saying it was a success, and 95.9 per cent wanting to do it again.
"Given the number of natural disasters New Zealand is susceptible to, it is important we spend time building up resilience and being as prepared as possible," said Ms Kaye.
