Friday's earthquake knocked out the water to about 100 houses in the Opaki area, although it is doubtful anyone would have noticed.
Rural councillor Graham McClymont said the earthquake dislodged a 25mm branch line, which came apart and was spewing water.
Mr McClymont said the water was shut off and an email sent out.
"Everybody gets about 1400 litres a day in their storage tanks, half of them wouldn't even know [the water was off].
"We haven't had a single phone call, except from the Times-Age." He said it would be an easy repair today.
