KEY POINTS:
The grandmother of Qian Xun Xue has sent an open letter to the public of New Zealand, thanking them and the Government authorities for their help.
Xiaoping Liu travelled to New Zealand to take custody of her grand-daughter after her daughter, Anan Liu, was found dead in the boot of a car on September 19.
Authorities are looking for Madame Liu's son-in-law Nai Yin Xue, believed to be in America.
Madame Liu said the family is now safe in China.
"From the moment my grand-daughter was reunited with me she would not leave me for a second."
She said her grand-daughter was now smiling but had a "severely traumatised soul".
"Now my grand-daughter is back with her family, we are still facing a lasting and challenging task, namely to bring her up in a safe and healthy environment," Madame Liu said.
"A Letter to the Public"
I have brought my granddaughter Qian Xun XUE safely back to family and friends in China. Once grounded in this familiar environment, her severely traumatized soul has been greatly comforted. Watching her slowly opening up her smiling face, I cannot but help recall the days we spent in Auckland. What a journey!
The fact that we successfully managed this despite many complicated issues and within such a short period of time, is not only the result of my continuous effort and strong belief but most importantly, a reflection of the emphasis that the New Zealand, Australian and Chinese Governments put on this matter.
In addition, help from Child and Family agents, Social workers, Immigration Officers, Barristers, Family Court Officials and last but not least, the efficient and disciplined Police Officers.
Furthermore, the care and trust from the public and the media, support of family, friends and superiors and the care we had from hotel staff are all appreciated. All these factors carried us through a very difficult time. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of my family and friends to say "Thanks to you all, we are now back in China safely".
From the moment my granddaughter was reunited with me she would not leave me for a second. I was not very actively involved with the media and the public during the time I was in Auckland. I hope the public will understand that I was only acting to protect my granddaughter's little life from any further harm.
Now my granddaughter is back with her family, we are still facing a lasting and challenging task, namely to bring her up in a safe and healthy environment. That is the goal that my family and I will strive to achieve.
I would also like to appeal to the public to leave us now to have a normal and peaceful life. My granddaughter needs a healthy and undisturbed environment to grow in. My daughter An An has already been buried so let us now put this behind us. If there is anything more you wish to do, please turn your concern for the child into prayers.
May all families be happy and peaceful. May all children be happy and healthy.
Regards to those who have cared, supported and helped us!
Xiaoping LIU
