KEY POINTS:
Abandoned toddler Qian Xun Xue is heading back to China with her grandmother.
The little girl who became known as Pumpkin and who attracted world headlines after she was found abandoned and crying at a Melbourne railway station, is now in the custody of her grandmother, Xiao Ping Liu.
Qian, three, was taken from Auckland to Melbourne by her father Nia Yin Xue, 57, on September 14. Xue fled from Melbourne to Los Angeles two days later.
The body of his wife, An An Liu, was found in the boot of Xue's car outside their Mt Roskill family home on September 19 and Xue is now being hunted by American police as a murder suspect.
He has been described as New Zealand's most wanted man and Los Angeles police believe he was still in Los Angeles Chinatown, possibly being hidden.
Qian's grandmother arrived in New Zealand last week to seek custody of Qian and to collect the ashes of her daughter to return them to China.
Auckland woman Grace Xue did not know she had a half sister until she saw news footage of her father after the toddler was found abandoned in Melbourne.
She also said she wanted to be part of Qian's life and had set up a trust to raise money for Qian.
She met Qian for the first time at an emotional meeting in Auckland on Monday.
