The signs are positive for the Pongaroa-based Puketoi club returning to the Wairarapa-Bush Rugby Union's senior first division competition in 2012.
Puketoi were forced to withdraw from this year's premiership because of a shortage of players but, according to club president Bruce Bowie, efforts to build the playing base have been successful enough to suggest that, with one important proviso, they will again be playing at the top level next season.
The proviso is that a suitable coach be found.
Bowie said the club was prepared to offer financial assistance to any person who might have to travel a significant distance to take up the challenge.
"Filling the coaching role is the big problem we have now ... get that sorted out and it will be all go," Bowie said. "Obviously we'd like a few more players too but it's the coach which is the main hassle."
