An elderly couple were assaulted and tied up in a brutal home invasion in Pukekohe last night.
At around 2pm yesterday, an elderly couple aged in their 60s and 70s were inside their home on John Street, Pukekohe when a man knocked on the door and asked to speak to a person the couple did not know, police said.
Ten minutes later, two men allegedly entered the couple's home, one armed with what may have been a firearm.
The couple were both assaulted and were tied up in the attack. The men then allegedly searched the house for about an hour, stealing cash and jewellery before fleeing with the victims left tied up in their lounge, police said.
Both of the victims required hospital treatment, with the female victim suffering a facial injury during the assault.
