Pukaha winner to name kiwi chick

Kids can show their support for conservation by tackling the Pukaha Mount Bruce loop track as part of the Wild Challenge Kids Run on Sunday, September 27.

The major spot prize, which is open to all competitors in the Breadcraft Wild Challenge and the Wild Challenge Kids Run, is to name a kiwi chick and participate in its release into the Pukaha forest.

Pukaha Mount Bruce general manager Helen Tickner said the challenge was a great way to involve young people in conservation efforts.

"Lots of kids want to actively help out with conservation efforts and this is a great way for them to get out into our native forest as well," she said.

"Kids don't have to run the whole way, they can choose to walk or run.

"It's a participation event and by getting out into the forest they can show that they support the restoration of a forest full of native species.

"Plus they come out of it with a cool T-shirt, are eligible for all the spot prizes and they can hang out at Pukaha for the day with their family after the event as every competitor gets a free family pass for the day."
