Wellingtonians have selected two alternative concepts to go head to head with the proposed 'Wellywood' sign on Miramar cutting.
The most popular option, Wellington - Blown Away, designed by Saatchi and Saatchi, scooped 46 percent of the votes. The concept, which comprises the word 'Wellington' with last three letters blowing away, will go take on the Wellywood concept and the sculpture Eye of the Taniwha to be erected on the Wellington Airport-owned.
The proposed Wellywood sign on the hillside around the airport provoked strong reactions, including a drive-by protest at the airport organised by a 26,000-strong Facebook group Wellingtonians Against the Wellywood Sign.
In June the airport management bowed to public pressure and appointed a panel to consider alternative sign options.
Votes can be cast on the Dominion Post website by November 17, with the result to be announced on November 19.
