People in Hobill Ave in the Manukau suburb of Wiri are being warned to stay indoors after a chemical spill at the back of a factory.
Two people are complaining of headaches and ambulances have been called.
The Fire Service says the problem is a resin catalyst in a number of old drums stored outside the factory.
They are currently cooling the drums, but say some of the water they are using has entered waste water drains.
