People waiting to collect their vehicle from Christchurch's quake-damaged central city should check whether it has already been retrieved and is awaiting collection.
Senior Sergeant Bruce Adams said owners should go to http://www.police.govt.nz/christchurch-vehicle-recovery to check the status of their vehicle.
"Please don't just wait. Check the status of your vehicle. It could be waiting for you to collect," Mr Adams said.
The vehicle recovery team had retrieved more than 4200 vehicles trapped in central Christchurch trapped since the February 22 earthquake, and was down to the last of those cars able to be retrieved.
"We said we would recover all of the vehicles that were able to be recovered and we have got a huge number of cars out, thousands actually. Now we are trying to get those last cars that are the really tricky ones to extract," he said.
