Auckland Transport is using a private shuttle, at the cost of more than $100,000, to transport staff between its offices as public transport is deemed too slow, Radio New Zealand has reported.
A six-month trial for the shuttle, transporting staff between the organisation's central Auckland and Henderson offices, was costing ratepayers $122,000, RNZ reported.
Auckland Transport community transport manager Matthew Rednall told RNZ the shuttle saved time, money and resources by cutting down the need for the organisation to run an extensive vehicle fleet.
"People have the option when they work at Auckland Transport to catch public transport between the offices and we provide Auckland Transport Hop cards for people to travel there. We're really providing options and choices."
