A West Coast publican who offered the All Whites a week's free booze at his pub if they won the World Cup has had a rap over the knuckles from the authorities.
Grant Smith, of Granity's The Big Fish Hotel, said the Liquor Licensing Authority had warned him of a possible breach of the liquor licensing laws on sensible alcohol consumption.
Mr Smith said the authority was being a "bit over the top" about his tongue-in-cheek promotion.
"Even if they (All Whites) did win, let's be honest, the chances of them coming down here - although it would be fantastic - are probably quite slim as well."
He'd be happy to replace the offer with free accommodation or free meals.
Mr Smith said today's All Whites' performance was "amazing".
"I was stomping around the house, and my blood pressure was going through the roof. I can't believe it's actually happened."
