A Northland man charged with murder and arson was remanded in custody to undergo a psychiatric assessment when he appeared in the Whangarei District Court yesterday.
The 20-year-old, who did not enter a plea, was granted interim name suppression.
Police arrested the man in South Auckland on Tuesday, the day after the body of a 22-year-old woman was found in a burnt-out house south of Kawakawa.
The woman killed was named today as Arihia Te Rautau Faulkner.
The man, represented by lawyer Arthur Fairley, will be back in court on July 5 when it will be determined if he is fit to enter a plea.
