Protesters are threatening to stand in front of machinery in Christchurch's Hagley Park today in attempts to stop upgrades to the Cricket Oval.
Work on the wicket block and outfield will begin this week with the site already cleared and prepared.
Canterbury Cricket chief executive Lee Germon describes the plan to stand in front of diggers as silly.
"They need to take a deep breath and consider the thousands and thousands of cricketers, including young cricketers who would love to see a Canterbury team play on Hagley."
Lee Germon believes the protesters aren't fully aware of what's actually happening with the work.
