Protesters against the Solid Energy coal mine development on the West Coast have camped out on the company's front lawn, after being evicted from the Happy Valley site yesterday.
Save Happy Valley Coalition has spent the past five years protesting the plans of the state-owned company to extend the Stockton opencast mine in Buller.
The group say the mine could destroy the unique red-tussock wetland, which is home to great spotted kiwi, rare snails and 11 other endangered species.
On Wednesday, Solid Energy and police removed the camp and said the public would now be excluded from a 480ha area around the planned extension.
But yesterday afternoon the protesters re-located to the front lawn of Solid Energy's headquarters in Christchurch.
Save Happy Valley Coalition spokeswoman Lynley Hargreaves said 30 people pitched a tent on the company's lawn and five people camped overnight.
There were around four people camped on the front lawn today, she said.
Protesters were staying there "indefinitely", Ms Hargreaves said.
