A prominent gang leader accused of setting his dog on police when they attempted to check his bail conditions has been granted bail - again.
The man, who can't be named for legal reasons, was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon after the alleged attack on police officers at his Grey Lynn home.
He was also charged with allegedly escaping lawful police custody and going on the run for several days before handing himself in to police on May 7.
A bail application hearing at the High Court in Auckland heard the dog had been euthanised after being pepper sprayed by officers.
One officer was bitten. Another dog was removed from the house by animal control officers.
