A prominent Dunedin sportsman has appeared in court facing a serious domestic violence allegation.
The 25-year-old appeared in the Dunedin District Court this morning charged with causing grievous bodily harm with reckless disregard for the safety of others following an alleged incident that occurred on July 16 this year.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment.
The man’s name was suppressed by Judge Emma Smith and she also granted an application by the man’s employer - which had legal representation in court - to have its name and the defendant’s occupation kept under wraps.
