Forty containers have now been lifted off the stricken cargo ship Rena, aground off the Bay Of Plenty coast.
Maritime New Zealand says weather conditions are reasonably good for container recovery to continue today.
But salvors say they expect the rate of recovery to slow, because the next containers to be removed are damaged, and will take longer to lift off.
A rapid response oil team will be out on Bay of Plenty beaches today also, ready to respond to any reports of oil from the public.
If you encounter oil on beaches, call 0800 OIL SPILL.
