Wairarapa-Bush utility back Tapaga Isaac may have played his last game of rugby.
The Greytown skipper, who will turn 27 this weekend, sought medical advice for a neck pain after his club side were beaten in their Tui Cup semifinal match with Gladstone in July.
He has been told numbness and tingling he has been feeling in his arms and hands are due to him having a narrow spinal canal, and that a further knock could have more dire consequences.
"Apparently it's something I was born with. It's just one of those things," he said.
While "pretty devastated" at the prognosis and although he intends obtaining a second opinion from a specialist surgeon, he is resigned to the fact his rugby playing days are more than likely over.
