Probation officers went on strike and picketed courts around the country yesterday after their colleagues were suspended for not implementing new work practices.
The suspensions follow the breakdown of employment contract talks between the Public Service Association and the Department of Corrections' Community Probation Service.
Meanwhile, the Employment Court will decide tomorrow whether up to 250 Auckland wharfies can lawfully strike again this week.
Waterfront Workers' Union members walked off the job for 24 hours last week and had planned a 48-hour stoppage beginning on Thursday.
