Masterton golfer Ben Campbell has broken his duck on the New Zealand PGA pro-am circuit.
A splendid second round saw Campbell come from three strokes off the pace at The Dunes course at Matarangi over the weekend to tie with Daniel Pearce of Ashburton at the top of the leaderboard.
And with Pearce having been allowed to play early to allow him to fulfil Australasian qualifying school commitments across the Tasman, his unavailability for a play-off meant Campbell was declared the victor.
A first round 73 gave little hint of what Campbell, the former top-ranked amateur in the country, was to produce in the second. His 69 was the best of the tournament and included a two on the par-three seventh and an eagle on the par-five 14th.
There was a three-way tie for third place. Kieran Muir of Omokoroa, also Melbourne-bound, Ryan Fox of Auckland and Wellington's Peter Spearman-Burn finishing three shots in arrears of Campbell and Pearce.
