Lakeview School pupil Loimuni Iefata has won $200 cash and a drum kit for his school in regional music contests this year.
The Year 7 pupil has been drumming for about the past five years and for the past two years has drummed for Unison, the school band with which he competed at the Smokefreerockquest in Masterton in June and at the Wellington Intermediate Schools regional Battle of the Band contest in Lower Hutt earlier this month.
The 12-year-old drummer, who also sings in a church group, said he was awarded the Best Drummer prize of $200 for his school at the contest in June and after a one-minute drum solo contest took first prize in Lower Hutt of a full drum kit, complete with high hat, snare, cymbals, kick drum and toms.
The white-sided drum kit now takes pride of place in the centre of the school music room, and is one of three kits available for the students to use.
