A bodybuilder in jail for importing drugs is selling a line of sports wear via his website, bearing the image of a man breaking out of a cell, and the logo "Convict Gear".
Champion bodybuilder Justin Rys was sentenced in the High Court in Wellington in March to 10 years in prison, for importing the drug Fantasy, and one count of money laundering.
Since then he has continued to post updates on his Big Kiwi website, and speak to other bodybuilders via an online forum, the Dominion Post reports today.
In the Big Kiwi "shop", customers can buy Convict Gear hoodies, t-shirts and singlets in black and white. Rys also endorses a weight loss supplement.
The Corrections Department has said there is no law against inmates running a business while in prison, but they can only hold $200 in their trust accounts, and have a weekly spending limit of $60.
In his online messages, Rys, a former Mr New Zealand, told readers he didn't have access to weights in jail, but was lifting other inmates to maintain his 120kg frame.
He was also studying business management, he said.
