KEY POINTS:
Police say they have recaptured a prisoner for the second time in just over a week and don't intend taking any chances this time around.
Jayden Conroy was recaptured overnight following an alleged second bid for freedom which lasted for three days, Sergeant Wendy Wright from the Napier police said.
Conroy, 21, allegedly escaped while on a Rangipo Prison work party near Turangi nine days ago, but police caught up with him in Napier a few days later after a van he allegedly stole in Turangi was found in the city.
The following day, last Thursday, he allegedly managed to escape again, from Napier police station, leaving police red-faced and determined to find him.
Ms Wright said Conroy was found at about 1am today at a Napier house and was back in secure custody at the police station.
"We won't be taking any chances with him this time," she said.
Conroy is due to appear today in Napier District Court to face two charges of escaping custody along with a charge of unlawfully taking a vehicle.
